Christian Living & Outreach

The months of November and December at People’s Church have really touched my heart. We have participated in many activities, all with great success. It is wonderful to know that we have so many generous hearts in this congregation.

In November, we started with the Ecumenical Food Drive, which collected 1319 pounds of food! People gathered from the churches involved to sort and deliver the food to the Pantry.

Karen Baker and her elves served a delicious, homemade Thanksgiving dinner to approximately 50 people. Karen stated that there were quite a few people from the community in attendance, and that everyone seemed to really enjoy the dinner.

We also collected food and money in November and December to provide bags of food for children in the Oregon School District to have over their winter break. These were given to children that would otherwise face a shortage of food. Our church put together 140 bags! We had a day with volunteers setting up all the food, and starting to put the bags together. We then completed the bags between church services, so that all could be involved.

On December 21st, People’s hosted an American Red Cross blood drive. Twenty-six units of blood were given, touching up to 78 lives!

Oregon Area Food Pantry – The Oregon Area Food Pantry Board is exploring the possibility of having more open days now that they are in the new building. When this happens, more volunteers will be needed. If you are interested in being added to the list of volunteers, please contact Kathy Kuehl at kuehl_kathleen_rnc@yahoo.com, or Kathy Smith at ksmith@peoplesumc.org.

January Mission of the Month – Oregon Area Food Pantry

The Oregon Area Food Pantry’s primary mission is to serve Oregon School District residents who need assistance in supplementing their supply of nutritious food and basic necessities. Their goal is to be a consistent, dependable resource for their clients, cooperating when possible with other community agencies.  The Food Pantry is now accepting donations during open pantry hours, and also the second Saturday of every month between 10:00 - 11:00am.  Did you know the food pantry now has specialized teams of volunteers? Each team has its own focus and time commitment, and one may just be perfect for you! No experience necessary! For details,  email oregonfoodpantry@hotmail.com.
