A Message from the Missions Committee

For several years People’s Church has had the Rural School in Cuernavaca, Mexico as our main international mission ministry.  The main reason we have been successful with what our funds and presence have been able to do with and for the school is because of the oversight and guidance of Brienne Barrows Gallardo and Cesar Gallardo, the daughter and son-in-law of Oregon residents, Linda and Dick Barrows.  This summer Brienne and Cesar and their four girls moved back to the states and will be living here for the next 12 years or more until all the girls finish high school.  Their efforts to find one or two people to replace them to oversee our work with the school were not successful and so we will no longer be able to support the Rural School in most of the ways we have in the past.

At the Church Council meeting on September 25th, the Mission Committee requested that the majority of the funds that are currently designated for the school in Mexico be redirected to a general international mission ministry account.  This request was approved.  Because of the potential to comfortably continue with one of the things we were doing for the children of the school, some funds remain designated for the Rural School for that purpose.

The generosity of the church family over the years for the ministry in Mexico has been amazing.  The Mission Committee realizes that the knowledge that our funds would be wisely and appropriately spent with little or no administrative costs is something that has influenced giving.  The committee is excited about the possibility of similar ministries for us to support in the future.  We will be sharing more with you soon including opportunities for you to ask questions and give your input. Thank you for your support of the mission ministry and for being a part of the life of People’s church.
