June & July Mission of the Month: The Healing House:

As an interfaith organization, the Madison Area Urban Ministry is responding to the call across faith traditions to care for the sick. The Healing House is a place a homeless child or family member can go to heal after surgery.

We are excited to announce that a generous member of our congregation who is familiar and passionate with the Healing House’s ministry has pledged to match all donations given to this mission of the month up to $5,000. That means every dollar you donate to this mission of the month will be doubled. Watch the thermometer in the gathering space for our progress weekly.

Imagine you are:

  • Homeless and being treated for cancer
  • A mother with small children
  • Released from the hospital after surgery

When you are released you may be given hotel vouchers for 3-5 days, so you have a place to recuperate, which is great, except:

  • No meals
  • No child care
  • No prescriptions filled or medication follow-up
  • No medical attention
  • No way to get to follow-up appointments

To contribute, simply mark your donation “Mission of the Month”

Request for Prayer from General Board of Global Ministries:

Bishop Hee-Soo Jung, who also serves as President of the Board of Directors for the General Board of Global Ministries, has issued the following statement: "I am appealing to you today to join me in prayer for three missionaries who are being detained in the Philippines. Our Council of Bishops of The United Methodist Church joins our colleague bishops in the Philippines in requesting assistance from the Philippine government for the immediate release of the three missionaries: Tawanda Chandiwana is a citizen of Zimbabwe; Miracle Osman is a citizen of Malawi; and Adam Shaw is a citizen of the United States. The GBGM invites you to visit umcmission.org/LetThemLeave and join them in:

·         Signing the online petition that calls for the immediate release of our missionaries;

·         Raising awareness through social media; and

·         Covering our missionaries in prayer by praying daily at NOON, wherever you are, for as long as these three young people are held:

God of grace and peace,  be with our missionaries.  Keep them free from harm.  Bring them home. Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.

Oregon Area Food Pantry News:

The pantry has now partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank and will be receiving food each month from the bank. The pantry also receives food from various drives around the community but is always in need of the items donated by individuals. There is now a Personal Essentials Pantry within the food pantry, and donations are not routinely received for these items. The pantry is always in need of toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, bath soap, 4-packs of toilet paper, and paper towels.
