Family & Children's Ministries

LEGO Sundays for children Kindergarten – 4th Grade!! LEGO Sundays will return on August 5th and run through August 26th! During this time, the children will hear a Bible story out of the Spark Bible and then make LEGO creations relating to the story. Thank you to everyone who has served or is going to serve in Summer Sunday School! As always, the Nursery will be available from 8:45 until 11:45AM. All children in Pre-K and under are welcome.

Sunday School Leader Training Dates (For NEW leaders): You are invited to learn more about serving as a workshop leader in our rotational Sunday School ministry! The time commitment averages 4-5 Sundays; it is not a year-long commitment. Please rsvp to Emily Shook, eshook@peoplesumc.org to attend Sunday, August 19 from 11:30AM-12:30PM in the downstairs adult meeting room. We will discuss how you can serve, schedules, our safe sanctuary policy and a few other items. Come and be trained in August so you can be ready to serve throughout the year!

NO Sunday School on September 2nd - please enjoy worshipping with your family!

Rotational Sunday School kicks off on September 9th! Our first Bible story will be focused on Thomas & Prayer Paul and we will begin recruiting leaders to teach workshops including art, music, video, cooking, games & science and Shepherds to move with the same group each week to the different workshops. Please contact Emily Shook, Director of Family & Children’s Ministries, eshook@peoplesumc.org if you are interested in learning more about serving in this area as a leader or a Shepherd.

Also, on September 9th - Blessing of the Backpacks ~ during 9AM service All children are invited to bring their backpacks to church to receive a special blessing during worship for the upcoming school year. Teachers & other school personnel are also invited to bring their “backpacks” (whatever you carry to and from school).

Mark Your Calendars: Saturday, September 29th from 2-4PM (Rain date Oct. 7th) - People’s Church will be hosting a community outreach event called “Wheels & Squeals”! This ALL wheel (bikes, scooters, roller blades, strollers, wagons) event will begin in our upper parking lot. Community members will then head over to the bike path across the street, ride along the path collecting punches at fun stations and then return to the lower parking lot for FREE food and a prize bag for each child. We need YOUR help to make this event successful by spreading the word about the event and volunteering to set up, work the event, welcome people, prepare/serve food or clean up. Please watch for the volunteer sign up at the beginning of September! We are excited to reach out to our community of Oregon!

The Adventures of Flat Jesus: “Flat Jesus” was created based on a children’s book called Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In the book, a boy named Stanley becomes flattened and is able to be mailed to different places, having all kinds of exciting adventures. We see the “Flat Jesus” project as a way to keep our church family connected as we enter into the summer traveling season. Pick up “Flat Jesus” starting on Sunday, June 25th in the Gathering Area. Color “Flat Jesus” and take him with you as you travel or to whatever you do this summer. Take a picture of him doing lots of different things: going out to dinner, having fun at the beach or the lake, hanging out with friends or cousins or whatever you are doing. It will be an amazing adventure! It is a great way to remember that Jesus is always with us, wherever we go. And it just might start up a conversation with someone about what you are doing and why. What do you do with your pictures of Jesus? Email your pictures to eshook@peoplesumc.org and use the hashtag #peopleschurchoregon when you post to Twitter or Instagram. It will be so exciting to see where our PUMC family goes and what they do this summer! And remember, Jesus is with you ALWAYS!
