Christian Living & Outreach

Service Opportunity: The Crossing college campus ministry needs groups to sign up for providing Sunday Vespers evening meals. Providing meals for students goes beyond just being hospitable. The Crossing staff are learning more about the issues of food insecurity for students. If you have a group interested in providing a meal, or would like more information about this ministry, please contact Kathy Smith at ksmith@peoplesumc.org.

Missions Ministry Opportunity: Do you have a passion for missions and enjoy performing organizational tasks? The Missions Committee is looking for someone who would be able to help with organizational tasks. The commitment would probably be for not more than 1-2 hours per month and could be done during the daytime or evening hours. If you are interested, please contact Kathy Smith at ksmith@peoplesumc.org, or Anne Staton at staton.anne@gmail.com

Prayer Shawls: A note was received from a prayer shawl recipient. “Thank you so much for the beautiful blanket. Life has been challenging for the last several months, and when Kathy brought me the blanket it brightened my day. I will always cherish it.”

Outreach:

“For the love of Christ urges us on…. So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us.” 2 Corinthians 5:14, 20

“The practice of the Radical Hospitality of Christ must move beyond the pastor, the worship leaders, the ushers and greeters and into the awareness of all our members and guests. The power of Radical Hospitality must run deep and wide and shape all our behaviors and responses for the church to fulfill its mission.” Cultivating Fruitfulness, Robert Schnase.

Challenge for the month – Take responsibility for inviting one person to a ministry of the church and for welcoming people you do not know. Pray for God to help you with confidence and genuineness and voice.

Mission of the Month: The September Mission of the Month is the Sierra Club, John Muir Chapter. The Mission of the Sierra Club is to explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; to practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; to educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out those objectives. The John Muir Chapter (JMC) is the Wisconsin branch of the Sierra Club, and includes over 18,000 members and supporters located throughout the state. The chapter was founded in 1963 by Norm O’Neill of Milwaukee.
