Oregon Area Food Pantry

The pantry is located right on the People’s Church property, but operates independently and is not run by the church. There are a number of different food distribution times for Oregon area residents. Click the picture to go to the website.

Helping Hands (Location: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oregon)

The Helping Hands Fund, administered by St. John’s Lutheran Church, is an emergency fund for individuals and families who live in the Oregon-Brooklyn school district. The fund is supported by donations from St. John’s members, People’s Church and other area churches, and individuals in the community. You can reach St. John’s Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm at (608) 291-4311 (leave a message if it’s after hours).

Neighbors in Need of Assistance (NINA) Fund

Joe Sullivan, Dane County Community Social Worker, administers this fund for families with minors in the Oregon School District. Assistance typically given is for emergent situation such as rent (to avoid eviction) or utility bills (to re-connect or avoid disconnection). Joe works with schools and community organizations to connect families with resources.

Project Recovery: Free Crisis Counseling by Phone

Counselors are providing no-cost crisis counseling by phone focused on helping Wisconsin residents navigate their emotions and stress caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Resource referral is part of the process, so counselors have knowledge of local resources for needs related to food, shelter, and health. Click the picture to go to the website.

Shelter for People in Need

For single women or families in need of shelter, you can go to the Salvation Army in Madison, or call them at (608) 250-2200 (single women) or (608) 250-2298 (families). For more information, go to the Salvation Army website.


For men in need of shelter, contact Porchlight in Madison at (608) 257-2534. For more information, go to the Porchlight website.

Cognitive decline, deteriorating health, and limited mobility are just a few of the issues that come with aging, and that can make it harder for seniors to live independently. However, with proper preparation, appropriate home care services, and a strong network of support, seniors can thrive at home.
